I don’t think there have been darker triple a action rpgs than the souls games, maybe the Witcher 3. The souls borne universe is inspired by the dark fantasy and cosmic horror genres. If you are referring to aesthetic design and art direction then yeah, skyrim is “darker” than a game like oblivion, with morrowind being the “darkest” of them all, but how could you use Elden ring as an example of a game that isn’t “dark,” but cartoonish. I’m sorry but what!? Like doesn’t the elder scrolls universe have monsters and colorful fantasy beings too, in fact I would say that the elder scrolls is inspired by traditional fantasy like Tolkien, D&D, or warhammer fantasy, much more than elden ring is. Wait so your opinion is that avowed should be darker and not have “cartoonish beings like in Elden Ring,” but more like Skyrim…. What you are asking for, “a game about sorcery and magick, not about fantasy worlds” is not one you will get because it’s about both, fantasy worlds/monsters and sorcery/magick. But if I played Madden, and was waiting for the next iteration, I would assume it would be about football, not soccer, not rugby, but football, because I’m well aware of what Madden games are about. How do we know that? Because there have been other games released in this same exact universe.

We KNOW that it will be a fantasy game with mythological creatures and monsters (as well as other people). However, the problem with that is that this game is set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, an already established universe. More fights with wizards and such rather than mythological beasts.

Gonna try my best to explain to you while you’re gettin pooped on in the comments (assuming this isn’t bait).Īfter reading your comments, what I think you’re asking for is for players to mostly battle other people rather than monsters.
